Question: There are lots of different environmental causes, what makes you think you are any different?
Earth Citizen Center (ECC): As a postEnvironmental (pE) organization, we are tackling the root cause of many of the problems in our world:
An exponentially growing world population. No matter whether it doubles in 35 years or 100 years, it just keeps doubling. People and the resources we require to live are enveloping the world. This is why civilization is responsible for the thousands of species that go extinct every year. Their room to live and grow keeps getting smaller and smaller.
Question: What is ECC’s Vision to Save the World?
ECC:Transform he Earth back into a Land of Abundance. By reducing the Human Impact on the Earth, through the voluntary reduction of the rate of population growth and by reducing consumption per person. (see ECC Mission Statement)
Question: Why do you have hope that you can make a difference?
ECC: In the last 50 years, there have been 2 changes in the world that seemed like miracles. One was political. It was when the Berlin wall went down, and the fall of the USSR. It seemed like the struggle between the 2 super-powers, USA and USSR, would go on forever or the world would be destroyed in the process. The second was social. Smoking is very bad for your health. People smoked anyway. It is no longer fashionable to smoke cigarettes.
Our culture can change. We can Save the Earth. We can Restore the Earth... One Child at a Time. Reducing the exponential growth of population allows us to share the world.
Question: I am only 1 person. It doesn’t matter what I do. Why should I care?
ECC: Social change is like dominos. It only takes 1 person to live a little differently. One person to have a different vision of how to live.
Soon, a second person gives it a try. If the idea is bad, no one else does it. If the idea is good, it can gradually become a new social norm.
Be part of the wave that heals the Earth.
Question: You are a parent and a grandparent. Don't you look your daughter in the eye and say, “Three is too many kids! You are
being irresponsible.”
ECC: It would not be right to say these things. It is up to each adult to decide how many kids to bring into this world.
It is ECC’s job to show the consequence of having many children. ECC’s vision is to eliminate the “exponential” part of exponential population growth.
If someone else does not share that vision then they must follow their own conscience, their own path. It is up to ECC to provide a path that people can follow to stop destroying the world, either directly or indirectly.
Question: This is liberal rhetoric! Your message has nothing for me. I am have conservative beliefs. Your message is hogwash.
ECC: Hmmm, it is ECC’s vision to have clean air, clean water, a multitude of fish in the sea, a huge bounty of grain in the fields, enough deer and elk to feed your family. A vision that will Restore the Earth back to a Land of Abundance it once was. Are these things contrary to your beliefs?
Question: I do not believe in birth control, sterilization, or abortion. (Even in the case of rape or incest) Are not my beliefs incompatible with the
ECC vision?
ECC: Earth Citizen Center is all about being responsible and sharing a vision that makes tomorrow a better place than today. If you have these beliefs and still want to be responsible then here is one possible link for you: Natural Family Planning.
There are always choices to make, some better than others.
Take a look at the ECC blog page. You can view other people’s suggestions and ideas, or enter your own.
Question: All your FAQs show you have a one-directional perspective, a USA-industrial world centric perspective. Many countries
have famine, political unrest with killing and murder. You are smug and naïve.
ECC: Yes, the world is not the same everywhere. It makes no sense to talk about consuming less and having less children
in an area where you fear for your life and your family’s survival. In areas like these, humane aid must be provided to raise the living
conditions for clean water, clean energy, and enough food for all the people.
Question: How did ECC come up with all these ideas?
ECC: Many of these ideas came from reading the books of Daniel Quinn. His Ishmael, The Story of B, My Ishmael,If They Give You Lined Paper, Write
Sideways, Beyond Civilization, and After Dachau have provided much food for thought. The DVDs/videos: An Inconvenient Truth
by Al Gore, National Geographics’ Human Footprint, The Ecological Footprint: Accounting for a Small Planet by Mathis Wackernagle, Ph D
also lended a hand. Some ideas came from many discussions and much introspection.
